Product Quality Engineer (SDET / Test Automation)

Product Quality Engineer (SDET / Test Automation)

Full-Time, Bay Area, Hybrid

Location: Bay Area / Hybrid

Type: Full-Time

Level: Senior / Staff

Why this role is exciting

Own whether the product actually works for a real user - not only whether individual requirements pass. Peer AI has complex, long-running workflows spanning clinical source data, AI agents, asynchronous processing, collaborative review, and final regulatory documents. You will complement our QA team by building the systems that continuously exercise critical product journeys, detect regressions, and give us confidence in every release - combining conventional test automation with AI agents, simulation, synthetic data, and product judgment.

About Peer AI

We're a Bay Area-founded, remote-friendly company backed by investors with deep roots in both technology and life sciences. Our platform is live with top-tier pharma customers today, and we're growing fast in a $23B addressable market spanning document authoring, submission workflow management, and agency interactions with the FDA and EMA.

Our Vision

At Peer AI, we are working to clear the path for important scientific and medical discoveries, so that treatments reach the patients who need them as quickly as possible.

Our Values
  • Drive Impact: We focus on delivering real results for our users. Making their work easier, better, and more impactful.

  • Be the Expert: We lead with deep expertise, curiosity, and honesty to guide others toward the best outcomes.

  • Go for Great: We take pride in pushing past “good enough” to deliver standout work in every detail.

  • Win as a Team: We succeed together—building trust, sharing ownership, and helping each other grow every day.

How We Work

Peer AI is an AI-native company, and we want our engineering organization to be AI-native too. We use AI throughout how we build, test, analyze, debug, and operate software. We look for people who ask what can be automated, what should become a system instead of a recurring task, and where human judgment creates the most value. These roles are intentionally broader than their traditional equivalents because we want the people who join us to help redefine the function itself.

Key Responsibilities
  • Map and own the critical end-to-end user journeys that must work before and after every release, with clear release-readiness criteria.

  • Build automated coverage across the UI, APIs, asynchronous workflows, data processing, and generated outputs - not just isolated feature tests.

  • Develop AI-assisted testing approaches, including agents that can navigate workflows, evaluate results, explore edge cases, and flag unexpected behavior.

  • Create realistic test datasets, scenarios, and environments that reflect how medical writers and life-sciences teams actually use the platform.

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Medical Writing, and QA to translate product expectations into executable, repeatable quality checks.

  • Investigate escaped defects and recurring failure patterns, build systemic safeguards, and as we move toward GxP make product testing and release evidence reproducible, traceable, and increasingly automated.

Must‑Have Qualifications
  •  Strong software engineering fundamentals and comfort reading, debugging, and writing production-quality code.

  • Hands-on experience building automated tests for complex web applications across APIs, services, and user interfaces.

  • Experience debugging distributed or asynchronous systems where failures may cross multiple services and jobs.

  • Strong product judgment: you can tell the difference between a requirement passing and a workflow actually feeling correct to a user.

  • A strong automation instinct, plus clear communication and the ability to influence release decisions across Engineering, Product, and QA.

Nice‑to‑Have
  •  Experience as an SDET, test infrastructure engineer, quality engineer, or similar software-engineering-oriented quality role.

  • Experience with LLM/agent evaluation, synthetic data, browser agents, or non-deterministic system testing.

  • Experience with healthcare, life sciences, regulated software, validation, or other high-consequence products.

What We Offer
  • Meaningful equity grant in a high-growth, venture-backed company.

  • Remote-first setup with quarterly on-sites in San Francisco.

  • Comprehensive health coverage, 12 weeks paid parental leave, and monthly home-office stipends.

  • Unlimited PTO and a mission that directly accelerates life-saving clinical research.

How to Apply

Send your resume to careers@getpeer.ai with the subject line: Product Quality Engineer, [Your Name]. A short note is welcome: tell us about a testing or quality workflow you redesigned through automation and what changed as a result.
